Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station
Located in Guangdong province, Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station is the first large-scale commercial nuclear power station in the Chinese Mainland. It is the largest signature joint venture project launched during the initial stage of the reform and opening up. The two pressurised water reactor generating units with a total electricity capacity of 2,052MW, now produce around 15 billion kWh of electricity per year. Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station increased its electricity supply to Hong Kong from 70% to around 80% of its output starting from late 2014.
Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station’s outstanding safety performance has earned international recognition. Over the years, it has consistently ranked among the top in various performance indicators of the World Association of Nuclear Operators. In 2024, Daya Bay completed its first 30-year overhaul, further enhancing its operational safety, supply reliability and digitalisation capability.
Nuclear energy is safe and reliable, and does not produce additional carbon emission to the atmosphere in the process of power generation. It provides steady base-load electricity at a stable price with proven technology and safety level, making it an indispensable non-carbon energy in addressing climate change.
