In our home market of Hong Kong, we are the largest power company, operating a vertically-integrated electricity supply business which includes generation, transmission and distribution, and retail. Today, we supply electricity to 2.64 million customer accounts (approximately 80% of the population of Hong Kong) of Kowloon, the New Territories, Lantau Island and most of the outlying islands with a reliability of 99.999%.
Outside Hong Kong, we invest in the energy sector in Mainland China, Taiwan, Australia, India, and Southeast Asia. Our business includes power generation, transmission and distribution, and electricity and gas retail activities. We are the largest external independent power producer in Mainland China, and one of the largest foreign investors in India’s renewable energy sector. In Australia, our wholly-owned subsidiary EnergyAustralia is one of the largest integrated power companies. As an integral part of local society and economy, we are committed to working hand in hand with the general public to create sustainable growth in these markets.
Our goal is to meet Asia-Pacific’s energy challenge in a sustainable manner from one generation to the next.

CLP’s first entry into the China market dates back to 1979, when the Group provided electricity to Guangdong to meet the developing needs of the local economy. In 1985, we invested in the first commercial nuclear power plant in Mainland China, the Guangdong Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station, and have since been participating in its operations.
CLP has always been firmly committed to Mainland China’s growing energy sector, where we have performed the roles of developer, investor, project manager and operator. To date, we are the largest external independent power producer in Mainland China, with investments in 15 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities. Our assets are distributed across North China (Beijing, Shandong, Hebei, Tianjin and Inner Mongolia), East China (Jiangsu and Shanghai), South China (Guangdong and Guangxi), Northeast China (Jilin and Liaoning), Southwest China (Guizhou, Yunnan and Sichuan), and Northwest China (Gansu). We have over 50 power generation assets in China, of which 19 are wholly-owned and three are majority-owned. Our capital investment amounts to approximately HK$ 60 billion.
CLP has always been an active participant in energy development in Mainland China. We are actively involved in the development of renewable energy projects. Our diversified portfolio includes a fuel mix of coal, nuclear, hydro, solar, and wind power. We enjoy sound cooperation with major players in energy and power industries in Mainland China.
With a clear investment strategy, we are committed to establishing a long-term, sustainable and sizeable presence in the Mainland power industry. We aim to manage investment projects efficiently and share technical and management expertise in addition to our experience in service excellence with our peers in Mainland China.
CLP remains steadfast in our commitment to sustainable growth and spares no effort in environmental conservation. We practise CLP culture by responsibly managing the environmental impact of our projects and operations, as well as promoting diverse community investments as a good corporate citizen.
